Taxi or car is really the only way to reach the airport, but there is one partial bus service that connects to the airport. Since the Orkney area is so compact, you should have no trouble finding the airport once you have arrived in the region.
Taxi:
hiring a taxi at Kirkwall Airport is simple. Proceed to the rear of the terminal building, and find the taxi companies waiting there. The following taxi companies operate a service to and from the airport and town: Rainbow Taxis (tel: +44 1856 872063), Kirkwall 5000 (tel: +44 1856 875000) and Finstown Taxis (tel: +44 1856 761368). The trip into Orkney town centre takes around 10 minutes. Taxis are metered and fares aren't expected to be negotiated.
Car:
Kirkwall Airport is located around three miles from Kirkwall town, in the east. The airport is located on the A960 and has on-site car parking to accommodate either short- or long-term stays.
Bus:
an Orkney Coaches bus service is timetabled according to the first and last flights of each day and waits until all passengers have been processed. This bus service also runs transfer shuttles throughout the day. The airport information desk (tel: +44 1856 886210) or Orkney Coaches (tel: +44 1856 870555) can provide you with more specific timetable information.
